As we build on the good work that is taking place across West Lancashire, it is becoming more important for us to share the stories of how our partnership working is having a positive impact on local people.

Science Summer School

We recently met with our partners to discuss how we can do this and will meet again in the near future to further develop this work.

There are currently three workstreams which we are working on. First, is the workstream to provide the Science Summer School for 2022. The collective thinking is that this will begin in March 2022 with the launch of the national science week in schools, with events culminating throughout the course of the summer.

With regards to the two other workstreams – one is an enhanced pathway into health employment and also pathways into construction and engineering.

We have met with our commercial partners and another event is planned for February 2022 where the focus will be on our four priority wards and how we can collectively work in these wards to drive social mobility to hopefully get people into these pipelines.  As a pre-cursor to this, West Lancashire college is already working with students from these wards to provide additional support.

We’re also looking to work with Everton in the Community to understand how we can work with our residents, in our four priority wards, to understand their needs better and help them address some of the issues that are important to them.

Skelmersdale Health and Wellbeing Hub

The health and wellbeing hub in the concourse in Skelmersdale is now operational.  Currently, its main area of focus is to provide easier access to West Lancashire residents for vaccinations.  However, plans are in train to potentially bring together some council services relating to wellbeing and also NHS practitioners such as the Trainee Associate Psychological practitioners (TAPPS), amongst others.

Pop-up vaccine clinics

WLP worked together to rapidly mobilise and deliver pop up, pop in vaccination provision in centres of the community to address low vaccine uptake including those with underlying health conditions who were overdue their second dose.

Winter Ready

WLP worked together over the winter months to help mobilise and support the local communities to be prepared for winter.
